Wide Ribbed Wall Panels with Broad Rib Spacing

Wide ribbed panels increase both the rib width and the spacing between ribs, producing a bolder, more deliberate rhythm. It is the choice for large walls where a fine rib would read as a flat texture.

What are wide ribbed wall panels?

Wide Ribbed Wall Panels are MDF sheets machined with raised square-edged ribs at a consistent pitch, giving a crisp, architectural line-and-shadow finish for contemporary interiors.

Choosing between standard and wide ribs

Standard ribs work at close viewing distances — hallways, bedrooms, alcoves. Wide ribs hold their definition across a big open-plan room or a double-height stair void, where the eye is several metres away.

If you are panelling a wall wider than about four metres, wide ribs almost always look more considered than a fine repeating pitch.

Combining wide ribs with joinery

Wide ribbing lines through neatly with tall doors and full-height wardrobes, because the rib pitch can be set out to align with door edges. Send us the joinery setting-out and we will machine the sheets to suit.

Setting out ribbed panelling

Ribbed panels reward careful set-out: start from the focal point of the wall and work outward so full ribs land where the eye goes first. Fix with adhesive and pins to studs, or to a battened frame on solid walls.

Keep the rib pitch continuous across sheet joints. Ribbed sheets also make excellent bed headboards and bar fronts, where the sharp shadow line reads strongly under downlighting.

  • Square-edged ribs for a sharp shadow line
  • Consistent pitch across sheets for uninterrupted runs
  • Popular for media walls, headboards and commercial fit-outs

Frequently asked questions

How wide is the rib spacing?

Wide ribbed sheets use a noticeably broader rib and gap than our standard profile. Ask us for the exact pitch for your chosen sheet size before ordering if it needs to align with joinery.

Can rib spacing be aligned with doors?

Yes. Provide your setting-out dimensions and we will machine the sheets so ribs line through with door and cabinet edges.

What is the difference between ribbed and slat wall panels?

Ribbed panels are machined from a single MDF sheet with shallow raised ribs. Slat panels use taller, more widely spaced slats with a deeper gap, giving a stronger three-dimensional effect.

Can ribbed panelling be fitted horizontally?

Yes. Horizontal ribs visually widen a narrow room and work well behind low-line media units. Choose the horizontal orientation option when ordering so we machine the sheet accordingly.

Care and maintenance

  • Wipe along the rib direction with a soft cloth to avoid catching edges.
  • Vacuum the rib valleys occasionally with a brush attachment.
  • Repaint contact areas such as bar fronts with a hard-wearing eggshell.
  • Seal cut ends immediately after trimming.

Product details from our workshop

Ribbed MDF panels made to order in Northampton: Wide Ribbed Wall Panels are machined on our CNC routers and delivered across England, Scotland and Wales. Ribs are routed across the face of each sheet at a wider pitch, giving a bolder, more sculptural texture than the standard ribbed profile. Manufactured from standard grade MDF, available in sheet sizes of 2400 x 600, 2400 x 400, 1200 x 600, 800 x 600 and thicknesses of 12mm, 18mm.

The wider pitch produces deeper shadow lines that hold their definition on large feature walls viewed from a distance.

Supplied unfinished and ready to prime, so you can paint the panels in any colour to match your scheme. Ideal for media walls, receptions, headboard walls and commercial interiors. Every sheet is CNC-machined, hand-checked and batch-matched so long wall runs line through correctly.
