Silver Oak Acoustic Slat Panels — Cool-Toned Felt Backed Wood

Silver oak gives you the texture and acoustic performance of a slat panel in a cool, greyed timber tone. It is the natural choice where warm honey oak would fight a monochrome or concrete-toned scheme.

What are acoustic panelling - silver oak?

Acoustic Panelling - Silver Oak are slatted wood panels bonded to a dense acoustic felt backing, used to reduce echo and reverberation while adding a warm, linear timber finish to a wall or ceiling.

Where a cool timber tone works better

Grey-toned oak sits comfortably alongside polished concrete, mid-grey paint, brushed steel and black metal frames — palettes where a golden oak looks out of place. It is a common specification for architectural practices, consulting rooms and modern apartment living areas.

Because the tone is close to neutral, silver oak also photographs well, making it popular for content studios and showroom backdrops.

Pairing silver oak with lighting

Cool-toned slats can look flat under very cool LED lighting. Choose 2700K–3000K lamps and light the panel from above at a shallow angle to bring the slat shadows forward.

Installing acoustic slat panels

Panels can be fixed directly to plasterboard with screws through the felt between slats, or bonded with adhesive on a flat, dry wall. Screws through the felt disappear once the slat shadow closes over them.

Cut the felt with a sharp knife and the slats with a fine-tooth blade. Butt panels together so the slat gaps stay even — the felt seam is invisible in normal light. For ceilings, always mechanically fix rather than relying on adhesive alone.

  • Reduces echo and mid-range reverberation in hard rooms
  • Fixes to walls or ceilings; trims easily to size
  • Felt backing hides fixings and softens the joint line

Frequently asked questions

Is silver oak a grey stain or a natural colour?

It is a greyed oak finish over real timber veneer, so the grain still shows through rather than looking like a painted surface.

Does the cooler finish affect acoustic performance?

No. Absorption comes from the felt backing and the slat spacing, which are identical across our acoustic range regardless of colour.

Do acoustic slat panels actually reduce noise?

They reduce reverberation inside the room — echo, harsh reflections and call-quality problems — rather than blocking noise between rooms. Covering roughly 20–30% of the wall area gives a clearly audible improvement.

Can acoustic panels go behind a TV or radiator?

Behind a TV, yes — leave a service gap for cables. Directly above a radiator is best avoided, as the constant heat cycle can dry the slats out over time.

Care and maintenance

  • Vacuum the felt with a brush attachment every few months.
  • Wipe the slats along the grain with a dry or barely damp microfibre cloth.
  • Avoid silicone polishes — they leave a film on the lacquer.
  • Keep panels out of permanently damp rooms; they are for dry internal use.

Product details from our workshop

Acoustic slat wall panels supplied ready to fit: Acoustic Panelling - Silver Oak is a 2400 x 525mm slatted acoustic panel delivered across England, Scotland and Wales. Wood-effect slats are bonded to an acoustic felt backing that absorbs reflected sound, softening echo in busy rooms while adding warmth and texture.

The silver oak slats have a cool, greyed grain that sits comfortably alongside concrete, matt black and monochrome schemes.

Supplied factory finished and ready to install — no painting required. Ideal for home offices, home cinemas, studios, meeting rooms and open-plan living spaces. Panels cut cleanly with a fine-tooth blade and fix straight to plasterboard or battens.
