Natural Oak Acoustic Slat Wall Panels on Felt Backing

Natural oak acoustic panels pair a light, warm oak slat with a dense black felt backing. They are our best-selling acoustic finish because the pale grain lifts a room while the felt takes the hard edge off echo in open-plan and hard-surfaced spaces.

What are acoustic panelling - natural oak?

Acoustic Panelling - Natural Oak are slatted wood panels bonded to a dense acoustic felt backing, used to reduce echo and reverberation while adding a warm, linear timber finish to a wall or ceiling.

How natural oak changes a room

Light oak reflects more of the available daylight than darker veneers, which makes it a safer choice for north-facing rooms and small home offices. The slats read as texture rather than as a strong colour, so the panel works with almost any wall paint.

In video calls the warm grain gives a professional backdrop that does not distort on camera the way a busy wallpaper does — one reason home-office buyers choose this finish over the darker options.

Acoustic performance in everyday rooms

The felt backing absorbs mid and high frequencies, the range that makes speech sound harsh in a room with hard floors and large windows. Covering roughly a quarter of the wall area is usually enough to noticeably shorten reverberation time in a domestic room.

For a home studio or podcast corner, place panels at the first reflection points either side of your position rather than spreading them evenly around the room.

Installing acoustic slat panels

Panels can be fixed directly to plasterboard with screws through the felt between slats, or bonded with adhesive on a flat, dry wall. Screws through the felt disappear once the slat shadow closes over them.

Cut the felt with a sharp knife and the slats with a fine-tooth blade. Butt panels together so the slat gaps stay even — the felt seam is invisible in normal light. For ceilings, always mechanically fix rather than relying on adhesive alone.

  • Reduces echo and mid-range reverberation in hard rooms
  • Fixes to walls or ceilings; trims easily to size
  • Felt backing hides fixings and softens the joint line

Frequently asked questions

Will natural oak panels yellow over time?

Real wood veneer mellows slightly with UV exposure. Rotating nothing is needed on a wall, but keeping panels out of permanent direct sunlight keeps the tone even.

Can I cut oak acoustic panels to height?

Yes. Cut the slats with a fine-tooth blade and trim the felt with a sharp knife. Cut ends can be finished with a matching oak edging strip.

Do acoustic slat panels actually reduce noise?

They reduce reverberation inside the room — echo, harsh reflections and call-quality problems — rather than blocking noise between rooms. Covering roughly 20–30% of the wall area gives a clearly audible improvement.

Can acoustic panels go behind a TV or radiator?

Behind a TV, yes — leave a service gap for cables. Directly above a radiator is best avoided, as the constant heat cycle can dry the slats out over time.

Care and maintenance

  • Vacuum the felt with a brush attachment every few months.
  • Wipe the slats along the grain with a dry or barely damp microfibre cloth.
  • Avoid silicone polishes — they leave a film on the lacquer.
  • Keep panels out of permanently damp rooms; they are for dry internal use.

Product details from our workshop

Acoustic slat wall panels supplied ready to fit: Acoustic Panelling - Natural Oak is a 2400 x 525mm slatted acoustic panel delivered across England, Scotland and Wales. Wood-effect slats are bonded to an acoustic felt backing that absorbs reflected sound, softening echo in busy rooms while adding warmth and texture.

The natural oak slats keep a light, honeyed grain that brightens smaller rooms and works with pale plaster and white walls.

Supplied factory finished and ready to install — no painting required. Ideal for home offices, home cinemas, studios, meeting rooms and open-plan living spaces. Panels cut cleanly with a fine-tooth blade and fix straight to plasterboard or battens.
